Miércoles Santo, Semana Santa in Úbeda

This is the first Holy Week procession that I saw in Spain. My first ever, and Anglican as I am, I was bowled over by the fervour and excitment of the crowd watching. This procession was organised by the Cofradía (guild) Eucarística de la Santa Cena Hermanad Sacramental and took place on Wednesday (Miércoles Santo), 31st March 2010.

One of the reasons that Maribel and Juan had invited me over to Spain was because they knew that I had never seen the Holy Week processions, and as their home town is Úbeda, they thought this would be an excellent opportunity for me to fill this gap in my knowledge of Spain. At first I was hesitant to take the camcorder, because previous experience had taught me that quality on YouTube was not always very good and I was reluctant to use other methods of storing the film. Also, I have to admit that my video camera technique is very poor. However, I didn’t fancy lugging my digital camera all over the place and relying on a record of stills, so I packed both Camcorder and Camera and thought I would give video one last try. I’m glad I did. I was stunned by the changes that had taken place in the YouTube process. The same techniques that I had used before were producing an end result of far higher quality.
