This morning (18th October) drove to Xàtiva, about 60kms from Valencia to see the birthplace of my favourite Pope, Alexander VI, born Roderigo Borja and, discovered he was the nephew of Calixtus III, also a Borja and born in Xàtiva.

Spent the whole morning climbing up to and exploring El Castell of Xàtiva, Moorish Castle built on Roman remains and conquered for the Christians by James I in a very early part of the reconquista. Stunning panoramic views of Xàtiva and the province of Valencia from the top. Certainly one of the most interesting sites in Spain and well worth the two euros to go round. Will insert photos when I get back. There was a fiesta or carnival in Xàtiva which seemed to go on for hours. Returned to Valencia and walked from the hotel to find where International House is, rediscovered one of my favourite café/ bars in Spain.
